Letter from W[illiam] Stanley, Secretary, Poor Law Commission Office, Dublin, to George Charles, 3rd Earl, Laleham, Chertsey, Surrey, relating to the Earl's complaint that letters written by him were surpressed in the 6th series of papers referring to the state of Unions in Ireland 'lately presented to Parliament'. Those letters concerned the non-payment of rates in the Castlebar Union, by the Earl as immediate lessor. He explains why letters received in January 1848 were not printed and offers to forward him copies.

The Earl had claimed that they suppressed and garbled some of his letters in the compilation of the 5th and 6th series of papers concerning the state of unions and workhouses in Ireland. He refutes this and concludes his letter by condemning the 'unofficial and offensive manner in which the Earl has addressed his letters to them. Poor Law CommissionersLetter from C Walmsiley, Poor Lae Commission Office, Dublin, to the Clerk of Guardians of the Castlebar Union, giving the reasons why the Poor Law COmmissioners feel it necessary to dissolve the Board of Guardians re-elected the previous March. They have not pursued some immediate lessors to pay their poor rate and a large sum is now owed. Some of the defaulters and memebers of the Board, including the Chairman George Charles 3rd Earl of Lucan. The workhouse with accommodation for 600 has never had more than 405 inmates, who are maintained by government funds. A recent act giving more powers to the Guardians of Unions will shortly come into effect. The Commissioners feel the Board of Guardians has not fulfilled its duties and he encloses the order dissolving it.
