Material relating to the publication of Tim Robinson's 'Connemara: Part 1: Introduction and gazetteer. Part 2: a one-inch map'. The map and gazetteer were published in 1990. Most of the material in this sub-subseries covers the mapping component of the work.
Six folders containing 56 maps, all annotated six inch OS maps. The maps are mainly the 1965 and 1966 editions with a small number from the 1974 and 1978 editions. Some of the maps in this file are photocopies that are sellotaped together. All maps contain edits that mark in additional features and placenames. The file begins with a fragment of the Ordnance Survey sheet index for Co Galway, with Robinson's handwritten notes listing the sheets he will require for his mapping project.
The following description lists the sheet numbers, number of copies, and date of publication of each OS map. Paragraph breaks indicate a new folder:

Two copies of the Index map for Co Galway showing the OS 6 inch sheet numbers. Both contain Robinson's notes that indicate the areas he has completed fieldwork on as of 1986, and the areas left to be surveyed.

File of Robinson's notes on historical reference maps, specifically the first edition six-inch Ordnance Survey, the placenames on Sir William Petty's Atlas 1683, Murdoch MacKenzie's 1767 map, the Connemara placenames on William Larkin's 1819 map of County Galway, Commander Bedford's Admiralty Map (1846-7), and a typed list of Military maps and their corresponding six inch OS map.

Handwritten letter from Pádraig Audley to Robinson enclosing a photocopied grid map, on which he has outlined the boundary of Knock-Spiddal Parish to the west of the Crimlin River. He explains a boundary between the East and West sides of the parish, and lists the townlands in the Tully half parish. (12 Aug 1987) 3pp;

Correspondence between Professor Brian McNicholl and Robinson, beginning with a handwritten letter from McNicholl who is contacting Robinson about a town called Pontoy or Pomoy which appears on historic maps he has seen, but which he cannot identify. Copy reply from Robinson who has wondered about the same placename, but has not established its modern name. He asks if it is possible to obtain photographs of these sections of the maps. A reply from McNicholl discusses the matter further, and encloses photographs of sections taken from the following historic maps. Baptista Boazio's Map of Ireland (1599), O'Donovan's map of Connemara, John Speede's map of the Province of Connaught (1610), Ortelius Map of Ireland (1573), Mercator Map of Ireland (1595). Correspondence between Michael Gibbons and Robinson, including some third party correspondence and enclosures. A note enclosing a photocopied article by Jane Conroy 'Galway Bay, Louis XIV's navy and the "little bougard"' (published 1997). The article describes and shows French hydrographical charts of Galway Bay and Aran. A third party letter from John Andrews to Gibbons comments on the Zalterius map and its similarity to the version of Ireland in Mercator's map of Europe. Subsequent correspondence between Gibbons and Robinson on the subject. (c1998-2003) 17pp;
File of fragments and tracings of OS maps of Inishbofin / Inis Bó Finne. Each item contains several of Robinson's annotations. They cover sheets 9 and 9c of the Co Galway six inch Ordnance Survey.
