Micheál Mac Liammóir wrote, produced and acted in the first play staged by An Taibhdhearc, and both he and Hilton Edwards advised on many aspects of theatre design. At the same time as An Taibhdhearc was beginning, Mac Liammóir and Edwards were also realizing their dream of a professional theatre in Dublin with the Gate Theatre. Mac Liammóir continued to work for An Taibhdhearc, directing and playing in a number of plays, traveling to Galway between Gate productions. This caused tensions with even this reduced workload with An Taibhdhearc proving impossible to manage. This was reflected in the correspondence with the committee.
