Also report in "The Evening Herald" on the arrest of Stephen Barrett when he turned up with keys to the safes taken from the Gaelic League offices at Dublin Castle (1 Nov 1920). Also a report of the case from the same paper when charges of holding a shotgun and two rounds of revolver ammunition on Stephen Barrett were dropped when the defendant was found not guilty (8 Dec 1920). Includes material relating to his death, and the reminiscences and obituaries of other leading members of the Gaelic League at that time.

Cuttings of reports of meetings of "The Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language" and "The Gaelic Union", made by Stephen Barrett. The cuttings are mainly from "The Freeman's Journal", giving reports of meetings. Includes report on the seventh Annual Report of the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language which referred to such items as the teaching of Irish in the National Schools (6 Mar 1885). Also copy of a motion passed at a meeting of the Gaelic Union condemning "the sneering and irreverent manner in which a portion of the Press treatson any question of our native language" (9 May 1885) [Formerly LSB55].

Many of the cuttings near the end refer to family members such as his brothers. Enclosed copy of a circular letter issued by John E Nolan Hon. Sec. of the Gaelic Union, 19 Kildare St., Dublin to the members of the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language, The Council of the Gaelic Union, and to the members and associates of both bodies complaining about attempts by the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language to acquire funds for the establishment of a Gaelic Journal, even though his society already runs one. He outlines the reasons why he and Canon Nourke split from the Society and set up the Gaelic Union (10 Nov 1889) [Formerly LSB156].
