Correspondence relating to George Xuereb-Brennan who had been refused a visa to work in Qatari because he had been born in Libya and attempts by Mary Robinson (MR) to vouch for him. (His parents had been born in Malta and were therefore British citizens, his Dad had work in Libya at time of George's birth in 1951, but whole family had been ousted under Gaddafi in 1970, George had gone to boarding school in Malta in 1960, and moved to Ireland where he had become a citizen in 1973/4, married a Galway woman in 1975. Qatari policy seemed related to anyone who showed support for Gaddafi, which was ironically not case here. Initial request for help came to MR from her brother Henry.

[Archivist's note: material in this file is both contemporary and sensitive in nature and is therefore partially restricted. It has not been possible to determine what happened in this case. However, it has been confirmed that George passed away in 2021.]
