Scope and content
Letter from George Charles, 3rd Earl, Hanover Sq., to E[dward T. B.] Twistleton esq., [Poor Law Chief Commissioner} relating to the Poor Law Commissioners inadequate answer to his letters. He writes that 'if the state of law relating to immediated lessors or mis-called lessors was not as I state, I should have been so informed'. He refers to the 'gross and absolutely monsterous injustice of the act' [Poor Law Extension Act, June 1847] and that the Home Secretary would never have allowed it leave the House of Commons if he had been made aware of its injustice by the Poor Law Commissioners.
