Shields describes a week spent in Cincinnati on a break from performing; he writes 'I was just getting along nicely when I got word one morning (Tuesday) from the cashier in the hotel who had changed my salary cheque that the Cleveland Trust Co. had failed so that the cheque was returned and I must give him immediately $ 1500.'
