Transcript of the diary of Winifred Lydon. Winifred Therese Lydon was born on 28 October 1886, in County Mayo, Ireland, to John and Bridget Joyce Lydon. She immigrated to the United States in 1908. By 1911, Winifred was employed as a chambermaid, working at Louis W. and Maud Taylor Hill's Summit Avenue residence in St. Paul and their farm in North Oaks, Minnesota. There Winifred met John H. Philben (1883?-1946), the Hills's gardener, who she married in 1915 and with whom had three children.
