Materials pertaining to Walter Shanly (1817-1899), a native of Stradbally, Queens County (now Laois) who became a civil engineer, author, businessman, and politician in what is now Ontario after emigrating with his family in 1837. The series includes a printout of the Dictionary of Canadian Biography entry on Shanly, a photocopy of Shanly's 1896 manuscript 'The Canadian Shanlys: Whence they came and how they got to Thorndale', and correspondence regarding Shanly from Michele Holmgren, Past President, Canadian Association for Irish Studies.
