Scope and content
Letter from Herbert Petzold, Registrar, European Court of Human Rights (signed by Paul Mahoney), to Kevin Boyle and Françoise Hampson forwarding the Turkish Government's fax of 22 November 1996 (mistakenly labelled 23) November 1996. The Government accuses the Kurdish Human Rights Project of seeking political gains by accusing the Turkish Government of violating the right of individual petition under Article 25 of the European Convention on Human Rights, and by 'putting forward unfounded allegations'. The Government states that authorities have simply tried to inform Şükran Aydın that such a medical examination is required by the Court 'in respect of the case which had been instigated by herself and for which criminal proceeding is continuing'. The statement concludes by stating that 'If Mrs. Şükran Aydın did not wish to go through a medical inspection at Forensic Institute in İstanbul, all she would have to do would be to declare that reference at the Public Prosecutor's office and sign a statement to that effect.'
