Statement by Mark Campbell, who was part of a trade union delegation to Lice in November 1993, one month after the village was attacked by security forces. Campbell notes that 'the whole of the town had been burnt to the ground apart from the military posts and a few shops, which townspeople said belonged to 'state' people'. Campbell was told by one of the teachers from the village that soldiers had come that morning and told them to lock the children into the secondary school and that one of the soldiers had told them that 'there would be a massacre here today'. Campbell describes tales of residents being burned alive inside buildings, and buildings destroyed with flamethrowers and chemicals. A photocopy of Campbell's photograph showing Turkish troops on the streets of Lice in November 1993 is attached.
