Material in this file consists of correspondence Nov-Dec 1981 including from Paul McLaughlin, Arthur Cox & Co solicitors (for John Paul and Company Ltd, building contractors) to Nicholas Robinson (NR) in relation to possibility of out of court settlement, 17/11/1981; correspondence from/on behalf of H.C. Kruger, Secretary to the European Commission of Human Rights to Messrs Walsh O'Connor & Co in relation to Francis X. Martin (FXM) v Ireland including mention of adjourning the case pending outcome of the Supreme Court 12/11-10/12/1981; letter from FXM to Robinsons, 18/12/1981 including reference to NR landing new post [NR becomes Director of The National Heritage Trust]; letter from Mary Redmond to NR asking for clarification on whether the case was a landmark interalia case because of its relator aspects 22/12/1981.
[Archivist's Note: On NR becoming Director of NHT, he relinquishes his practice effectively and recommends FXM use Walsh O'Connor & Co Solicitors - FXM however without realising Brendan Walsh of WO'C&Co was happy to take on case, had gone elsewhere to his cousin Rowena Mulcahy (neé Martin) who had worked with NR on case and who had since set up on her own ].

Correspondence from FX Martin (FXM) to both Robinsons including in relation to strategy, 21/01/1984, in relation to FXM being asked as a witness in case between Stewart and Janet Farrar and Independent newspapers following a John Feeney article calling them Satan worshippers 23/02-11/04/1984 and two personal letters written while FXM was on break at the Augustinians' villa outside Rome, July 1984; letter from Oliver Flanagan T.D. to FXM relating to his meeting with Mr Aano, M.P., and an approach they both made to President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Mr Arhens requesting he intervene on FXM's behalf, 02/07/1984; letter from Ian Lumley, An Taisce to FXM regarding a proposal to have the National Library of Ireland (for which FXM is a trustee) hand over one of their buildings for use by Dáil 10/07/1984; correspondence from Carine O'Grady, secretary to FXM to Nicholas Robinson (NR), 02-26/07/1984 (duplicates of previous file); Royal Irish Academy Annual report 1983-1984; letter from FXM to NR relating to FXM's search for the various architectural drawings which were given as options to Dublin Corporation in design of the civic offices, 17/12/1984.
Material in this file appear to be duplicates of correspondence and legal documents relating to the various stages of the FX Martin (FXM) case. A Cover page lists out four parts: (1) "1977-1978 AG (FXM) v Dublin Corporation + Ors 1977 No 5919 P (1)", (2) "1979-1984 AG (FXM) v Dublin Corporation + Ors 1979 No 133P", (3) "FXM v Ireland 8569/79" and (4) John Paul v FXM + Ors", and includes photocopies of letters from International academics and experts to Taoiseach Jack Lynch 1979, reports, indices of various books of appeals and pleadings, copies of affidavits and handwritten case notes.
