              Part of Irish Language

Press release announcing that the Language Freedom Movement will produce a badge for those members who wish to wear one. This was decided at the Council's AGM on 21 April 1968, where it was also decided to commission a study of language policy looking at the constitutional rights of parents and schoolchildren. A postscript indicates the Honorary Secretary's report and results of the Mini-Plebiscite are enclosed, however they were not included in the collection.

              Part of Irish Language

Press Release issued by the Language Freedom Movement responding to comments made by An Taoiseach Jack Lynch regarding the LFM campaign in the Cork by-election. Mr. Lynch objected to the reporting of the answers given by Fianna Fáil to the six questions put to all candidates (see G44/1/2/5). This press release qualifies what was reported, and asks Fianna Fáil to clarify its stance on language policy.

              Part of Irish Language

Press release issued by the Language Freedom Movement welcoming Labour's new language policy, which makes Gaelic an optional rather than a compulsory subject for any Certificate examination. In the countdown to the 1969 general election, this means that Fianna Fáil are the only political party in favour of compulsory Irish. The press release also praises Desmond Fennell's recent proposal: 'Plandáil Chonnachta' (see G44/5/3), a proposal to establish new Irish speaking communities in the Gaeltacht areas of West Galway, loosely based on the idea of the Kibbutz in Israel.

              Part of Irish Language

Press release containing extracts from an Address by Christopher T. Morris, President of the Language Freedom Movement, to a meeting of members at Moran's Hotel, Dublin on 17 February 1967. Refers to the failure of the majority of those in favour of the Replacement policy to declare their stance openly. Argues that the plan to replace the major world language with a private language not spoken elsewhere is retrograde and must be taken seriously. Reiterates the reasons for the LFM's opposition to the replacement policy. Concludes by objecting to its opponents attempts to deny the LFM freedom of speech and freedom of private assembly.

              Part of Irish Language

Press release issued by the Language Freedom Movement quoting remarks made by Christopher T. Morris, LFM President, at the formal establishment of an LFM branch in Galway. Comments made relate to the annual cost of the Gaelic language programme in the primary school system. Criticises the replacement policy 'both in principle and in its highly objectionable practice of compulsion and discrimination'. Highlights that the people of Ireland have not been given a chance to have their say in the Replacement Policy. Recommends a study conducted by Fr. John McNamara entitled 'Bilingualism and Primary Education'.
