Scope and content
Clippings from the 11 March 2004 issue of the Özgür Gündem newspaper in which Abdülkadir Aygan of JİTEM (the Turkish Gendarmerie intelligence organisation) admitted that JİTEM planned the kidnapping and killing of Necati Aydın and Mehmet Ay, waiting for them outside the State Security Court where they were last seen. Aygan stated that, under torture, Necati Aydın exposed the names of PKK members that he knew. Aygan also admitted that the death of Vedat Aydın (husband of Şükran Aydın, see A44/43/1/14) was similarly planned. Aygan was a former PKK member who surrendered to the Turkish military and became a JİTEM operative until fleeing the country for asylum in Sweden in 2001, ultimately sharing his knowledge of 58 such murders. An English translation of one of the articles is attached.
