Scope and content
Kerby A. Miller's brief abstracts and notes for five letters related to the McErlane family, along with typed transcripts of two of the letters. The first transcript consists of a letter from Charles and Bridget McErlane in Dowlingstown, County Derry to their son Joseph, thought to be in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1894, and the second is a letter from Michael 'Mick' McErlane in Belfast to Joseph in 1919.
Per Kerby A. Miller: 'Charles McErlane married Bridget McGlade, and they lived in Downingstown (or Dowlingstown), Co. Derry. They had three sons: John, who went to Waukon, Iowa, later to St. Paul, MN; Michael, a sho[p]ekeeper in Belfast; and Peter, who went to San Francisco, and was killed in a railroad accident [...] Charles McErlane's fourth son, Joseph, was born 15 April 1855 in Co. Derry. He was married in Lourdes, Iowa, on 9 June 1885, to Margaret Ann Curran, born in Boston in 1868, whose parents had emigrated from Co. Waterford in 1862. Joseph died in Minneapolis in February 1932. He and his wife had nine children.'
