Scope and content
Typed transcripts of the letters and photostatic copies of two letters originally collected by E. R. R. Green, a collaborator of Kerby A. Miller's. The first letter was written by F. McCosker in Mobile, Alabama and sent to William Cole in Campsey, County Derry in 1873. It discusses McCosker's second trip home to Ireland, descriptions of Belfast and industry there, challenges of the journey to America, nostalgia for home and laments about the conduct of Irish people at home and abroad, brief descriptions of America. The second letter both appears and is transcribed only in part, and is listed as being written by Robert Thorpe in America and sent to Ireland [n.d.]. The included portion of the letter discusses the death of a loved one named Philip, recounting his last days.
