Materials pertaining to a letter written by Irish emigrant Mary Ann Rowe, then of Dedham, Massachusetts, to James Wallace, Ballintee, Dunnamaggan Parish, County Kilkenny, 29 October 1888. In addition to a photocopy and transcripts of the original letter, the series includes research and correspondence compiled by Kerby A. Miller regarding Mary Ann Rowe, her husband Patrick Sutton, and the Rowe family, and includes a copy of his essay "I cannot banish the thought of home": Young Irish Women's Responses to Urban-Industrial America in which the story of Rowe's letter features.
