Letters include sending comments following broadcast of documentary about McGahern on Irish television and inviting the McGaherns to visit Barry at his home in Galway; letter from [ Aoife] , wife of Barry, to John McGahern and also offering comments on the documentary on McGahern, also a letter from Barry to McGahern with plans of upcoming visit by McGahern to the Cúirt Festival of Literature in Galway.

              Letter from Brother Bede Minehan (Provincial) (20 Dec 1992) to McGahern, sending congratulations McGahern on winning the G.P.A. literary award. "I write to you as a past-pupil of the Presentation Brothers in Carrick-on-Shannon to say how proud we are of your literary achievements"
              Also a letter from Brother Athanasius to McGahern (24 June 2002) "No doubt you do not remember me. Many years ago (in the 30s) I often carried you on my shoulders . . . in later years I taught with your sister in Presentation College, Reading".
              File also includes a stamped envelope, postmarked from Bethnal Green, London, addressed to "Miss M. Green, 1 Rue Christine, Paris." 20 March 1970. The hand is very like John McGahern's but item is possibly misfiled with these other letters. Original file order retained.

              Letters from Tom and Anne Bradley to John and Madeline ('Bambi') McGahern. Tom Bradley was Professor of Russian Literature in Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania, USA. Letters include invitations to the McGaherns to visit and stay with the Bradleys; letter thanking McGahern for sending a Polish translation of "The Pornographer" to Tom Bradley, and talking about visits to Lodz and Warsaw in Poland (2001); letter from Bradley saying he had read McGahern's later works and offering comments on the books and on family/work matters (2002); Letter of 2004 with further news and updates on work, family, travel etc. with comments on protests in Ireland against George W. Bush.

              Also two letters from Maurya Bradley, daughter of Tom and Anne, asking McGahern if he would add support to her Fulbright application to study in Ireland, with later letter to say that she did not get a Fulbright fellowship that year (1996). Copy of letter of support written by McGahern is included.
