Letter from Ulick O'Connor, 15 Fairfield Park, Highfield Road, Rathgar, Dublin addressed to Arthur Shields, 404 East Padre, Santa Barbara, California, U.S.A. O'Connor thanks Shields for the hospitality he and Laurie showed him and adds 'you will see in the enclosed article the result of that delightful evening in Santa Barbara when you talked about the Abbey and its past.' O'Connor recounts recent developments in the theatre in Dublin which he considered to be 'at a low ebb presently'. He describes a fight he got into with a an returned Irish emigrant from South Africa who was giving 'the anti-nigger line', he writes 'I felled him quickly and scooted off before the peelers arrived. I ran into the Hibernian with my shirt torn off much to the surprise of the Foxrock mothers, who were giving their public school sons afternoon tea there.'
