Letter from P J Freyer, 27 Harley St, Cavendish Sq, London W, to 'Dear Director General' [T H Goodwin], explaining the purpose of his request for an interview on Monday 12th. Freyer writes that he wants to visit military hospitals in France as other consulting surgeons have done and if possible French Army hospitals and that he speaks French fluently having previously studied in Paris. He states that in Jan 1915 he was appointed 'by your predecessor' consulting surgeon to the Indian hospitals at Brighton. In Jan 1916 following the evacuation of the Indians, he became consulting surgeon to the hospitals for British troops at Brighton and in Mar 1916 consulting surgeon to all the hospitals in the Sussex district of the Eastern Command 'a position I have held ever since'. He draws the Director General's attention to the fact that although he attends periodical meetings of the consultants to the Eastern Command he has never been summoned to a meeting of consultant surgeons 'at your Headquarters'. He cannot account for this as he feels it would be helpful to the discharge of his duties and that his opinion might be of value. It is not his fault that he has not served abroad during the war as he placed his services at the disposal of Director General Sir Arthur Sloggett at the outbreak of the War.
