Scope and content

Letter from Michael McDonnell, 169 Rathgar Rd. Dublin 6 addressed to Arthur Shields 404 East Padre St., Santa Barbara, California. McDonnell was writing a critical biography of the playwright Brinsley MacNamara. McDonnell was particularly interested in the first production by the Abbey of 'The Silver Tassie' in 1935. Shields was the producer, it's not clear what MacNamara's role in the production was. McDonnell writes 'Brinsley claims that he went to [Eric] Gorman and instructed him to tell you of certain changes Brinsley wanted in the production...can you recall the nature of the change made for the third performance?'
