Scope and content
Letterfax from Françoise Hampson to Herbert Petzold, Registrar, European Court of Human Rights, requesting a dismissal of the Turkish Government's request to keep the memorials submitted in the Şükran Aydın case confidential, as the memorial was written with the intention of being a public document and 'the only conceivably relevant ground for confidentiality is the highly personal nature of the medical examination. That concerns the applicant. As already indicated by fax on 19 December, the applicant is willing to waive any right she might have had to to keep the material confidential. She is willing for the memorials to be publicly available.' Hampson notes that memorials are by default made public according to the rule of publicity applicable to the Court's proceedings.
