Letter from Christy McCarthy 287, Errigal Road, Drimnagh, Dublin, addressed to Arthur Shields, 1535 North Sierra Bonita, Hollywood 46, California. Christ McCarthy expresses his gratitude to Shields for sending him his signature for a collection of 1916 veterans. He also encloses a stamp for Arthur Shields, he writes 'The story of the stamp is simple - Arthur Griffith used the stamps in the early days of the movement to advertise Sinn Féin - The Stamps were usually fixed either on the flaps of envelopes or else beside the English Postage-stamp - which we, as you remember, were reluctantly compelled to use.'
