Eileen Gallagher was a friend of Barry Fitzgerald and the Shields family. She writes 'I'm sure you will remember me, I lived at 2 Cabra Villa (the red bricked houses) a couple of doors away from Mr. Carolan's shop. Willie and I used to write to each other from the time I was 14 years of age right up to the end of the last war...'; Gallagher who had been in contact with Fitzgerald in the weeks before his death enquiries 'if you would like a memoriam to your brother erected in the Greenlanes Church, Clontarf.'
