Scope and content

Original typed notes prepared by Canon Hayes for a lecture during Catholic Social Week, Dublin, 1942. The lecture is in response to a recent article in the Catholic Herald expressing the view that there was a spiritual danger in the 'back-to-the-land' movement in England. Hayes states that this cannot be applied to Ireland as rural people have a larger role to play in 'Social Reconstruction', and that the worker of the land must have equality in the economics of the nation in order to curb emigration. The final page of the speech is missing. Includes annotations and corrections.
