Materials regarding a letter written by Irish emigrant John B. Phillips in Winnsboro, South Carolina to his brother James in Lisburn, County Antrim, 12 March 1819. The letter was written by John B. shortly after arriving in South Carolina and notes the religious diversity of the Winnsboro area. Their father, also named John, was a prominent Loyalist militia leader in South Carolina during the American Revolutionary War who later returned to Ireland. Included are transcripts and photocopies of the original letter and Kerby A. Miller's research on the Phillips family.
