Transcript of a letter written by James and Mary Toal in New York to their nephew Edward in Belfast on 14 January 1845, plus Kerby A. Miller's notes on the letter. Per Miller: 'The Toal family appears to have originated in the barony of Upper Ards. Places specifically mentioned are the barony, the town of Portaferry, and the townland of Thomastown. Also mentioned are the 'Lough people'; this may refer to Loughdoo (townland) or to residence near Strangford Lough.'
