It was proposed to place an engraved plate on one of the chairs in the theatre.

Letters addressed to Arthur Shields from Gabriel Fallon a director of the Abbey Theatre. In letter dated 7 March 1966. Fallon describes the arrangements for the opening of the 'New' Abbey and a second function for the unveiling of a plaque 'bearing the names of the members of the company and staff of the Abbey who participated in the 1916 Rising.' Also letter from Gabriel Fallon, 58 Whitworth Rd. Dublin 9 addressed to Arthur Shields. Fallon outlines the plans for the re-opening of the Abbey and also writes that 'while we are deeply disappointed that you cannot be with us in person on July 18 we are delighted to learn that Christine Frances will be here to represent you.' Christine Shields latter attended that ceremony, Fallon writes in a letter dated 20 November 1966 'I think Christine enjoyed the experience though we both missed you. She made a very nice little speech in thanking Sean Lemass for unveiling the 1916 plaque;'
Letter from Jack (?) addressed to Arthur Shields. Jack describes the opening of the 'New' Abbey, he complains that the 'opening show' was distasteful. He also writes that Christine was 'assured, soignee and one of the nicest people I've ever escorted. But she did chide me today for groaning right through last night's performance.'

Shields thanks the Directors for the honouring him with life membership of the company, he also writes that he was very disappointed that his doctor refused to allow him to attend the opening of the 'New' Abbey 'but it would be remiss if [he] did not once more thank the directors for their kind invitation to an cordial reception of [his] daughter Christine.'
