Letter from Arthur Shields, Hotel Lafayette, Buffalo, New York addressed to Lini Saurin. Shields describes the pleasant experience of eating oysters in Washington: '...the memory of them lives with me. All or nearly all food we have had in America tastes as though it had been cooked a week ago and been kept warm since.' He also writes 'Yesterday when we reached Baltimore we were quite delighted because reaching that point meant that we had completed our circle of the country. I have all our journey marked in red on a map and it makes a long red line.' (T13/58)
Letter from Arthur Shields, The Edison Hotel, Schenectady, New York addressed to Lini Saurin; in this short letter Shields complains of having been struck down by 'Flu or grip as they call it here'. He also writes 'I'm sorry to have to tell you that they made some more bookings after the Boston engagement so that all my hopes are dashed as to being home when I told you.'
Letter from Arthur Shields, Boston addressed to Lini Saurin. Shields writes of his excitement at the prospect of returning home to Ireland; he writes 'It's settled now we leave Boston on Saturday 2nd May on the Scythia.' he also writes that 'I'll never be able to thank you enough for all the care you have taken of him and the grand way you have kept us posted with news.'

Parties: The Abbey Theatre of Dublin, Irish Free State as the Party of the First Part, and Alberand Wickes, Inc. of Boston, Mass, U.S.A. as Party of the Second Part.
Terms and Conditions: The Party of the Second Part agrees to manage an American and Canadian Tour for the Abbey Theatre Irish Players during the season 1932-33. The Party of the First Part agrees to maintain an artistic standard equal to that of former years and will arrive in the United States not latter than 10 October 1932. The Party of the Second Part agrees to pay The Party of the First Part a minimum sum of twenty-five hundred dollars (2500.00) per week, except the week in which Christmas falls and Holy Week.
