A receipt for a payment of £9,738.10.10. was stamped on 28 July 1948 and a repayment of £2,063.13.6. was made on 23 June 1949. Includes pages containing calculations of jointure and portion shares. Also letter from Estate Duty Office, Harrow, England, to ‘Gentlemen’ [Darley, Orpen and McGillycuddy] relating to estate duty to be paid on the ‘slice’ of the whole property, which was charged with the payment of jointure to Rose Zara Daly (23 May 1950).
Letter from [ ], to C J Bourchier, Estate Office, Tullamore, [Co Offaly], relating to employees at Castle Bernard. Includes on the back pencil annotations relating to [Daly?] succession duty.
Letter from Laurence Storey, Aughrim, land agent to G.R. Wade, stating that he has put the heifers on the Bottoms, that the drain in Egan's is nearly done and that he will start on the one by Mrs. Persse's next as directed. He feels that Mr Lynam's report will be before the Board soon, and that he expects it to do fine. He states that Wade has two houses in Aughrim that will unfortunately require ejectments. He states that the land cases will commence on Monday, and he is making all possible arrangements.
Letter from Laurence Storey, land agent, Aughrim to G.R. Wade, saying he had to get two strangers to work at cutting the rushes at Newcastle, commenting that Mintane only works now when it suits himself. He states that there are good prices at the fair for small cattle, and that the cattle on the Hill can be moved soon.
Letter from Laurence Storey, land agent, Aughrim to G.R. Wade, saying that Kelly will go to Birr, and that it would be better to send McKeigue with him. He states that Naughton of Ballinasloe has not come to collect the springer, and that he has stopped cutting the rushes until he sees what is to be done.
Letter from Laurence Storey, land agent, Aughrim to G.R. Wade, saying that as some of the stock were branded they checked their mouths, but he could have them all examined if he wished. He feels that the large cattle should sold off. He states that there are twenty heifers and that the springer had been sold off.
