Statement of Sedat Aslantaş addressed to the European Commission of Human Rights, written while Aslantaş was remanded in custody at Ankara Central Closed Prison following his 5 December 1994 arrest while representing a client at Ankara State Security Court. Aslantaş states 'The decision is not "legal" but political' and that the Turkish Government have been looking for ways to frame him for participating in actions relating to human rights violations in Turkey, including the numerous applications that have been made to the Commission ('Turkey is extremely unsettled by our applications'). The statement is enclosed by a letter from Kevin Boyle to H.C. Krüger, Secretary to the European Commission of Human Rights. Boyle asks the Commission to seek assurances that Aslantaş will not be subjected to torturous, inhuman, or degrading treatment while in custody.
