Letter from St Clair O'Malley, Castlebar, to Richard 2nd Earl, 5 Hyde Park Place, London relating to the remittance of £1000 of the Earl's account at Coutts. He writes of the great scarity of money in the country and the difficulty in collecting rents to meet the demands on property in time. 'Even Mr Glendining who is an extensive agent cannot get the accommodation he requires from the Bank'. He refers to the ejectment of Mrs. Edmundson, to John Carr's lease of the Review Park and to Mr. Lovelock, the Barrack-Master's surprise at being ordered to pay his rent to St Clair O'Malley.

Letter of St Clair O'Malley, Castlebar, to Richard, 2nd Earl, expressing his great unhappiness at the tone of the Earl's letter and that he had caused him much anxiety that the Earl intends to visit Ireland. He tries to justify himself and states that he has been devoted to the Earl's interests since his infancy, he and his father having served the Earl for 33 years. He offers to travel over to England. He has 'everything prepared for the Bishop's land business. In a note at the back he writes that the house is ready, Mrs O'Malley and the children have been removed.

Letter from St Clair O'Malley, Dublin, to Richard, 2nd Earl, 37 Rue de Varenne, Fau St Germaine, Paris, informing him that the Latouche cause is proceeding very slowly despite the pressure he has been putting on Messrs Livesay. He hopes the Earl's health is better and states that he will have a horse called 'Pirate' ready for Lady Adele to ride when she comes to Castlebar. He is glad the Earl approves of the arrangements for paying the extra remittances. Mr Higgins and Mr John O'Malley are happy with what he told them and Myles Gibbons, a very obstinate man, is still in gaol. Sir Samuel O'Malley wants to exchange the lands of Ballynew, Burren and Cappagh on the Pontoon Road for lands in either the barony of Murrisk or barony of Gallen.

Letter from St Clair O'Malley, Castlebar, to Richard, 2nd Earl, stating that he has written a letter which can be forwarded to the Archbishop. 'I didn't think he was entitled to receive the rents any more'. He cannot understand the delay in the arrival of the pictures and the brass fan at Laleham. He will meet the Earl in Dublin and everything is ready for the Earl's arrival in Castlebar, including the horse for Lady Adele and a small carriage for [Adelaide] Lady Lucan. The boats at Pontoon have been painted.

Letter from St Clair O'Malley, Castlebar, to George Charles, 3rd Earl, Laleham, Chertsey, England, relating to the first election of Guardians for the Castlebar Union, commenting 'so bad a Board of Guardians I believe there is not in Ireland'. After a hard fight to get the Touhys to vote in his favour, the Earl was elected Chairman and he encloses a list of all those who voted for and against the Earl. The radicals, including the Touhys, voted for James Conry as Deputy Vice-Chairman, it 'is a lasting disgrace to have a fellow of that kind appointed'. He writes of his own appointment as Chairman of the Relief Committee and as Treasurer for the Agricultural Bank.

-Unsigned letter to Father O'Neill accompanying a cheque for £20 to help clear the debt incurred by the chapel, and thanking O'Neill for his assistance during Rural Week (29 August 1956, 1p).
