Refill pad with unfinished reworked draft by Thomas Kilroy of his play The Madame MacAdam Travelling Theatre, based on the printed text (Methuen, 1991) and on a typescript draft: parts of both these were combined, and connected with new handwritten dialogue and stage directions. Changing little in Scene 1, then providing alternative dialogue most extensively in Scenes 2, 3 and 4. For instance, changing scene of dredging of the lake (Scene 4) and the following conversation between "Madame" and "Jo".

Change to "Madame"'s monologue, with a different entry to the monologue, "It is the beginning of Herr Hitler's war...". Introducing a new dialogue between "Rabe" and "Lyle Jones", breaking away from the historical tableau from Emmett's time (Scene 2). (Paginated 1-79, missing pp.55, 58-60.)

Including correspondence regarding possible publication by Penguin Books, Lilliput Press Ltd, or by Faber and Faber. Notably containing correspondence with Max Stafford-Clark of The Court Theatre, London, who originally commissioned the play, with much detailed comments on characters and plot (see especially Kilroy's letter of late January 1991). Also including correspondence with Dr. Jo Harrop, expert in portable theatres in England; criticism from Christopher Fitz-Simon (Dublin), Jim Nolan (Waterford), and Barbara Hayley (Maynooth); hopes for a rewriting in cooperation with Michael Cottrell (London).

Directed by Jim Nolan; starring Helen Ryan, Julian Curry, Tom Radcliffe, Fionnuala Murphy. Comprising correspondence between Kilroy, his literary agents, The Field Day Theatre Company, and others; printed programmes; press reviews. Including a letter of protest signed by thirteen actors, including Helen Ryan, Kevin Flood, Tom Radcliffe, against management decisions and shortcomings that riddled the production, and in particular the decision not to take it to The Royal Court Theatre, London (9 November 1991). Also including an interview with Kilroy by Joseph Woods, Irish Stage and Screen (October/ November 1991); a letter appreciating the play by Peter Fallon, The Gallery Press.

Directed by Charlotte Moore; starring Denise du Maurier, W.B. Brydon, Ciaran O'Reilly, Rosemary Fine. Comprising inserts for the original script, and a final script with new inserts (84pp); correspondence between Kilroy and his literary agents, and with Charlotte Moore; reviews (enclosed with a letter faxed by Moore). Including detailed exchanges with Moore about the perceived weaknesses of the play as it stood and his intentions for the play; negative criticism from his literary agent at Casarotto Ramsay Ltd, Tom Erhardt, who saw the New York production.
