"File of correspondence between Proinsias Mac an Bheatha and various institutions and individuals following his appeals in the ""Irish Times"" [enclosing cutting] and the ""Belfast Telegraph"" for information on Jemmy Hope. Institutions include Ulster Museum, State Paper Office (Dublin), Public Record Office Northern Ireland; gaining permission to publish photographs; invitations to do research. Private persons include Philip Hope (Antrim), Fergus McMullan (Belfast), Peadar O'Donnell (Dublin), M.J. Robb (Newry), T.Ó hEanáin (Belfast), Alan Stewart (QUB), Alice Campbell (Newry); arranging for O'Donnell's preface to the book, gaining information on Hope family, Hope's headstone, points of folklore, sending of printed sources. Stewart, connected with Hope by marriage, sketches lack of regard in his family for 'a black-sheep forebear', and states that 'in our hugely secular Northern society you must not be surprised at my ignorance of their church affiliations, Presbyterian or whatever' (2 May 1984).
