Contract engages Shields 'to portray the principal role of the character which is now tentatively called "The Bookshop Man" in a series of twenty-six (26) motion picture photoplays based upon a series of stories in the public domain and the screenplays based thereon...in full consideration of the services to be rendered by [Shields] pursuant of this agreement and the rights granted to us hereunder we agree to pay you, and you agree to accept, the total sum of One Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Dollars ($1,950.00) together with a sum equal to ten per cent (10%) of the net profits...'
