Scope and content
Typed transcripts of the Creedon family letters, a sequence of five letters written between members of the Creedon family in Pleasant Valley, Pennsylvania and Burnfort, County Cork between 1883-1907.
Also present are biographical notes on the family provided by donor Humphrey Twoney, who writes that the letters 'were written by members of the Creedon family, then living at West Avoca, Pleasant Valley, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, U.S.A. to Mrs. Catherine Sheehan living at various addresses in Co. Cork, Ireland. Mrs. Sheehan was formerly Catherine Creedon. The Creedons emigrated to America probably around 1880 [...] By 1883 all the Creedons were living in America, at Pleasant Valley, Pennsylvania. Patrick Creedon has died (probably in Ireland). His four children and his wife have emigrated. Only Catherine Sheehan (nee Creedon) has remained at home in Ireland. I have been told that Catherine's mother wanted her to emigrate with the rest. Catherine refused -probably because her husband was too elderly for emigration. On February 18 1860 Catherine Creedon married Patrick Sheehan, a man who was 23 years older than she.'
