Scope and content

Correspondence received by Herbert Petzold, Registrar, European Court of Human Rights, and forwarded to Kevin Boyle and Françoise Hampson, compiling the replies to his letter of 6 March 1997 asking the parties involved in the Şükran Aydın case to state their views on the need for a further hearing in the case. While none of the parties explicitly requested a hearing, both the applicant and the European Commission stated their willingness to participate in a hearing should it be called. The Turkish Government simply stated that they did not think a further hearing was necessary.
