Correspondence authored, received, and/or compiled by Kevin Boyle, Aisling Reidy, and Françoise Hampson pertaining to the Cemile Şarlı case. The correspondence is with the European Commission of Human Rights, the European Court of Human Rights, the Kurdish Human Rights Project, and the Diyarbakır-based legal team members. Notable items within this correspondence accessible to the public include: Hampson and Boyle’s letter of 23 June 1994 introducing the application; the 5 July 1994 statement of Mahmut Şakar of the Diyarbakır Branch of the Human Rights Association clarifying Ahmet Şarlı’s petition to the Bitlis State Prosecutor and to what capacity Ahmet’s brother Tevfik represents him; letters which accompanied documents and observations submitted on behalf of the applicants; requests on behalf of the applicant for extensions of document submission deadlines; correspondence pertaining to the 29 September-4 October 1997 and 4-9 May 1998 case hearings in Ankara; the 18 November 1999 reference of the case by the Commission to the Court; the Court’s 2 February 2000 offer of legal aid; schedules of professional legal fees and costs incurred by the applicant’s representatives; the Court’s letter of 22 May 2001 forwarding the case judgment; and correspondence regarding distribution and payment of the awarded judgment.
