File includes printed flyer from the production of By the Bog of Cats at the San Jose Repertory Theatre; MS document by Joe Vaněk entitled 'Costume Breakdown - Provisional'; MS letters by Joe Vaněk as fax correspondence sent to director of the play, Timothy Near (Jan - Apr 2001) discussing ongoing ideas and work on the play, also work by Joe Vaněk on Gate Theatre Dublin production of Therese Raquin by Emile Zola and future Gate production of Bash directed by Neil LaBute; discussing the photography of Traveller halting sites in the Dublin Mountains; details of budget for props, set, and costume, detailed discussion around matters of design for the set, props and costumes; Typescript "Option B" treatment for the play, by [Near], with MS drawings of alternative set design by Vaněk, and which has a guiding heading of "Surrealistic expression of the play, Sartre, Beckett, Dali...."

Printed copy of "Performing Arts Magazine, Sept 2001, which also is a programme for the production of By the Bog of Cats at San Jose, with details of cast members and an article by Michael Butler, entitled "The Travellers of Ireland"; article "Writing in Greek" by Frank McGuinness and a note on the play by director Timothy Near.

Dates of rehearsal/tech/production schedule; Detailed production treatment/outline by [Timothy Near] and sent to Joe Vaněk with commentary and notes of each scene and the vision for production of the play; correspondence between Vaněk and [Near] outlining plans and itinerary for visit to Offaly and the midlands with Marina Carr; Print-outs and copies of photographs of traveller caravans and halting sites, some taken from book "Irish Tinkers"; others are sourced from the National Museum of Ireland; some photographs taken by Vaněk; also photographs of the set model-box; text of biographical details of Vaněk for use in the play programme; black and white headshot images of cast members such as Wanda McCadden and other actress titled for character of "Hester". Also flyers from bridal boutiques from where costume research and samples were undertaken.
