Submission made on behalf of the applicants in the Ersöz and others (Özgür Gündem) case to the European Commission of Human Rights. The submission informs the Commission about the contents of the Susurluk report (A44/43/2/9) which exposed deliberate, state-sponsored campaigns against journalists, businessmen, and opposition leaders, particularly of Kurdish origin. The submission also informs that lead applicant Gurbetelli Ersöz died in autumn 1997 in northern Iraq (note: Ersöz, who was no longer allowed to practice as a journalist in Turkey, had joined the PKK in 1995 and was killed in combat).
