Report on the March 1994 visit of two Norwegian MPs to Turkey to investigate the arrests and detention of the defence lawyers in Diyarbakır and the subsequent April 1994 mission of Jon Rud of the Norwegian Bar Association to Diyarbakır. Rud describes his meetings with some of the lawyers and their representatives (including Tim Otty), describes their prison experiences and methods of torture used against them, the various charges laid against the lawyers in the indictment (in which complaining to the European Commission of Human Rights as a form of propaganda belittling Turkey was mentioned), and his own experiences of surveillance and harassment from security forces in Diyarbakır during his mission, including confiscation of a Swedish-language book Rud had borrowed from a Norwegian public library which showed pictures of Kurdish guerillas and referred to 'Kurdistan' in a map. Rud notes that his calls back home to Norway would be abruptly cut off if the phrases 'PKK' or 'Kurdistan' were mentioned, indicating wiretapping.
