Three issues of the Amnesty International publication Urgent Action (publication numbers AI EUR 44/37/94, 44/38/94, and 44/49/94) appealing for action regarding the arrest and detainment of Sedat Aslantaş on 12 May 1994. Amnesty calls for letters and appeals to be sent to various Turkish Government officials. The 17 May 1994 issue notes: 'Since the joint press statement of May 1993 does not advocate violence, Sedat Aslantaş is considered to be a prisoner of conscience and his imprisonment to be in violation of his right to freedom of expression, as safeguarded in Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, to which Turkey is a State Party.'
