Statement (in French with English translation) sent by the Embassy of Turkey in Belgium to the International Federation of Journalists regarding Şerif Avşar. The Embassy states that: six men [five provisional village guards and a government informant] abducted Avşar on 22 April 1994; the guards were identified and placed in custody on 5 May 1994; the guards claimed to have abducted and killed Avşar as part of a vendetta; Avşar's body was found in a field alongside the Diyarbakır-Silvan highway; and the suspects have been arrested and the investigation is in progress.
