Scope and content
4 signed statements made by Nebahat Akkoç (in Turkish, translated into English) about the detention of herself and 10 other teachers who were members of the Eğit-Sen trade union on 27 October 1992; and the murder of her husband, Zübeyir Akkoç, also a teacher involved in the Eğit-Sen trade union, killed on 13 January 1993. Nebahat states that she had made an appointment with the National Education Director to discuss attacks on union members and the exile of 40 members of the union into other regions of Turkey. She writes about the public harassment of teachers by the police ('the police were openly saying, "all these teachers are terrorists, it is necessary to know them well'). She notes in her final statement of 27 October 1993 that there has been no progress in her husband's murder case and that she has now retired from teaching in part due to the cessation of her pension.
