Scope and content
Copies of the memoir of William McElroy. McElroy was born in 1796 in Drumantine, County Down, and emigrated to Albany, New York in 1822. About the memoir, Professor Kerby A. Miller wrote that, 'Its excellent representivity of contemporary emigrants, its broad life-coverage, its often detailed, highly literate, and sometimes even dramatic descriptions, and its situation of McElroy in important socioeconomic and cultural contexts both in Ireland and the US, albeit almost exclusively in the 1820s-30s, strongly recommends McElroy's memoir for inclusion' in his research and studies of Irish America.'
