Typescript draft of 'The Leavetaking' beginning 'I watch a gull's shadow float among feet on the concrete as I walk in a day of my life with a bell, its brass tongue in my hand, and think after all that the first constant was water.' Contains a small number of amendments and inscriptions, was sent from Faber and Faber to John McGahern at 2 Marris House, Upper Claremont, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Paginated pp 1- 173. Typescript identical to P71/106, pages 36-46 have been moved an inserted after page 159, page numbering amended by hand to accommodate this change. This change is reflected in the published 1974 version of the novel.
