Scope and content

Kerby A. Miller's brief typed abstract of the Thomas Kane letters, held in PRONI. Per Miller: 'Thomas Kane was a shopkeeper's assistant, later a partner, in the drapery firm of J. Leeman & Co., in Armagh town. The few emigrant letters in this collection are written to him, but the most interesting ones are from South Africa, not from America. Kane and his correspondents seems to have been middle-class Protestants, the petty bourgeois backbone of Unionism.'
