Scope and content

Typed transcript provided by the Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) of the Thomas Blakely letter sent from Shannonbridge, King's County [County Offaly] to his nephew James Blakely in Belfast in 1847. The transcript also includes handwritten edits and notes pertaining to the original letter. A note from PRONI states that Blakely is 'commenting on his sister's death, his own abortive attempt to establish a school in Galway, his daughters' emigration and his own resolve to emigrate to USA, and on his commitment to Reformed Presbyterianism.'
