Scope and content

Letter transcripts, letter abstracts, and research materials pertaining to Robert W. Smith (later Smyth), a native of County Antrim who emigrated to Philadelphia in 1837, where he worked for, and lived with, his uncle William Smith in his distillery and wholesale liquor business. In 1845, Smith/Smyth married and operated his own tavern and distillery; he passed away the following year at age 26. The Smith family were based in Moycraig, County Antrim. Included in this series are Kerby A. Miller's research notes on Smith/Smyth and his family in Antrim and in Philadelphia, and transcripts and abstracts of the 64 Smith (Smyth) family letters (dated 1832-1848) found in PRONI (D1828) and copied by Miller.
