Scope and content
Abstracts and photocopies of four letters concerning an emigration scheme promoted by George Flower and the farmers of his area in Illinois, who desperately needed men and women for farm labourers and servants. The letters are written to Richard Dowden Richard, a prominent businessman who became mayor of Cork in 1845. As Kerby A. Miller notes regarding the final letter, 'The arrangements seem to be falling through because of delays, or indecision, or resistance to the scheme in Cork.'
